The adventure begins - April 7, 2012
Finally made it to Managua! Customs was a nightmare. They were going to confiscate all our medical supplies and not allow us to do surgeries. Customs said "they did not have record of our government authorization to practice medicine in the country." Say What? We traveled this far to not do surgeries?? Valishia stood her ground and would not take "NO" for an answer, explaining to them (in spanish) that we had government authorization, showing them the original, executed documents from MINSA and asking them to speak to managers and to their managers. After hearing "NO" many times, Valishia stood there praying and standing her ground with Christine by my side doing the same. Our entire team of 22 people and 44 suitcases of equipment stood waiting and watching to find out our fate, as she communicated with officials. PRESSURE. Finally out of no where, customs found the authorization!!! (literally out of no where) Thank you God! What if we would have turned away and just given up? What if we would have taken "NO" as the final answer? Lesson to be learned: When you know in your heart you are meant to do something, you just have to believe its all going to work out and have FAITH :-) Take that customs!!!! -
Praise that you made it and praying that you are having a good day.
