Monday, April 9
Monday began early for a few of the team members who got up early to walk down to the beach and have an early morning swim. The team then got together for an awesome Nicaraguan breakfast. We loaded up and headed to the local clinic, Roberto Clemente clinic. We met the staff of the small clinic and learned about how they serve the community almost 100% funded by donations. The clinic is there to take care of the local people and sees approximately 11,000 patients a year. From there we headed to Rivas hospital to unpack and see where we would be working for the next few days. We met the staff who greeted us with great excitement and extreme gratitude. We than spent the next few hours unpacking and preparing our areas for coming days. After all the hard work, our surgeons began the task of interviewing and pre-oping our 30 patients. Team anticipation is high!!!! When we arrived back that the hotel we enjoyed a great dinner and then had a "dry run" of how the next day would go. Everything was discussed in detail and we wound down in great hope for the next day.......
Unpacking our Medical supplies
Sunday April 8
We got to spend Easter at Verbo Church. We then ventured on our 3 hour journey to our our week long home at Popoyo beach hotel. We spent the whole ride getting to know our new family and sharing fun antidotes from last years trip down here. The ride was a wild one down an hour long dirt rode filled with wild horses and carts driven by oxen. Pretty different to say the the least. Once we finally arrived at our destination we began to unload our 46 bags of medical supplies and settled in to our rooms with our roommates. The evening wound down with a meeting to discuss the next few days events. You could literally feel the excitement amongst the team. The team then enjoyed the rest of the evening bonding and finally going to bed to rest up for the next day.
